Clarification on Recent Media Reports Regarding gang war in Phallianmandal.
This rebuttal pertains to an incident that took place at Phallian Mandal on 04.02.2025, at approx 1810 hrs. During this incident, a group of individuals from one party used a firearm in the air, intending to intimidate the other party. Additionally, the assailants damaged parked vehicles using wooden sticks. In investigation so far, it has surfaced that the real cause of this incident was common interest over immovable property business and not a gang war.
Taking the cognizance, FIR No. 23/2025 under Section 109(3) BNS and Sections 3/4/25 of the Arms Act stands registered at Police Station Satwari and investigation is undergoing.
Meanwhile, some media persons have incorrectly reported this incident as a gang war, which is misleading, incorrect and untrue. We emphasize that this was a localized issue and should not be conflated with organized gang-related violence.
We request our friends in the media to refrain from sensationalizing an issue/incidents involving violent means and linking every such occurrence to probable gang wars. Such portrayals can send a disturbing signal to the otherwise peaceful society, potentially escalating tensions and insecurity in public which is avoidable.
As a fourth pillar of democracy, media reporting play a crucial role in shaping public perception and maintaining societal harmony and peace by correct reporting. We urge all media houses to act responsibly and ensure that reports are factually accurate.
