INDIA-ASEAN RELATIONS

* The Year 2025 has been designated as ASEAN-India Year of Tourism. To mark this occasion several programms were held including ASEAN-India Tour Professional Exchange Programme (Malaysia (18-20 April 2025), Thailand (26-28 August 2025) and Vietnam (04-06 September 2025) and Cruise Dialogue (Chennai, 29 June-02 July 2025).

* Other activities include 5th ASEANIndia Youth Summit (Goa, 28-31 August 2025), 3rd ASEAN-India Artists’ Camp (New Delhi and Shillong, 29-March-07 April 2025) and ASEAN-India Scalehub for Startups (Indonesia, 03-05 July 2025). Scholarship prgrammes for ASEAN Students at the Nalanda University and various Agricultural Universities also continued to be implemented.

* Process of revival of Nalanda University was supported by the East Asia Summit. India hosted EAS Participating Countries for the “Knowledge Exchange Workshop on Energy Efficiency Policies and Programmes – Lifestyle for Environment” and the “Conclave of Heads of Higher Educational Institutions” at Nalanda University in India during 17-19 September 2025.

* In the year 2024, a decade of India’s Act East Policy was marked by several people centric initiatives including 3rd ASEAN-India Music Festival in New Delhi and Bangkok, 8th roundtable of ASEANIndia Network of Think Tanks (AINTT) in Singapore, visit of an ASEAN delegation for the Annual National Cancer Grid Meeting in India, ASEAN India ScaleHub event for startup in Indonesia and ASEANIndia Startup Festival in India. First ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise was held in May 2023.

* Year 2022 was celebrated as the ASEAN India Friendship Year to commemorate 30 years of ASEAN-India relations. As part of Friendship Year celebrations, on 16 June 2022, India hosted a Special ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (SAIFMM) in New Delhi. In Defence Cooperation, India and ASEAN held the first ASEAN-India Defence Ministers' Informal Meeting on 22 November 2022 in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
