PARLIAMENT QUESTIONS: DRAINAGE CONNECTIVITY WITH TOILETS
Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), for disposal of human excreta, use of safe and eco-friendly onsite sanitation technologies such as twin leach pit toilets are encouraged for most parts of the country.
As per information provided by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Public health and sanitation is a State subject. However, Government of India supplements the efforts of the States and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in providing infrastructure for basic services such as sewerage infrastructure in urban areas through its various flagship Missions, such as Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and AMRUT 2.0. Sewerage and Septage Management Sector is one of the components under AMRUT. Under sewerage and septage management sector, 890 projects worth ₹34,504.93 crore have been grounded of which work worth ₹32,356.24 crore have been physically executed.
Till date, 149 lakh sewer/ septage connections (including households covered through FSSM) have been provided through AMRUT & convergence against targeted 145 lakh sewer/ septage connections respectively. List is attached at below. Under AMRUT 2.0, Sewerage and septage management sector, so far 592 projects worth ₹67,607.67 crore covering 154.69 lakhs new/service sewer connection attached at below is approved by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
