Continuing Medical Education CME program on the current scenario of anesthesia and critical care services in Jammu

The Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine, in collaboration with the Indian Society of Anesthesiologists (ISA) Jammu City Branch, successfully conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on the current scenario of anesthesia and critical care services in Jammu.
The CME commenced with a lamp lighting ceremony, followed by the felicitation of esteemed guests, including Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu; Dr. Anita Vig, Professor and Head, Department of Anesthesiology, GMC Jammu; Dr. Narinder Bhutiyal, Medical Superintendent, GMC and associated hospitals; Dr.GB Kohli, Ex-HOD Anesthesia GMC Jammu ; Dr. Rajesh Mahajan, Past President, ISA Jammu; Dr. Ashwani Kumar, President, ISA Jammu; and Dr. Updesh Kumar, General Secretary, ISA Jammu.

The newly elected body of ISA Jammu was introduced by Dr. Gurmeet Singh Reen, Election Officer, ISA Jammu, who has been conducting elections for the past two years.
Two panel discussions were conducted. Panel discussion on current scenario, challenges and ways to improve safety standards in anesthesia services was moderated by Dr.Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Dr.Laughi Bhan with Dr.Satya Dev Gupta(ex-HOD Anesthesia,GMC Jammu),Dr.Gurmeet Singh Reen(past president ISA jammu),Dr.Nandita Mehta(Prof & HOD anesthesia,ASCOMS Jammu)and Dr.Ravinder Gupta (consultant anesthesia jk health services). Second panel discussion current scenario,challenges, and ways to improve critical care services in Jammu Province was moderated by Dr.Renu Wakhloo(associate prof Anesthesia) and Dr.Kunal Sharma (Assistant professor anesthesia) with panelists Dr.Anita Vig(Prof &HOD anesthesia), Dr.Madan Lal Katoch (Prof anesthesia), Dr.sunana Gupta (associate professor and HOD anesthesia, AIIMS Jammu),Dr.Vanilla Chopra (HOD critical care medicine,SMVD Narayana) and Dr.Rohit Gupta(Critical care Ankur Matrika).
The CME program aimed to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, discussion, and collaboration among healthcare professionals, with a focus on improving anesthesia and critical care services in Jammu.
The CME program was a resounding success, attracting approximately 150 participants from all over Jammu. The diverse group of attendees included medical professionals from various Government Medical Colleges (GMCs), AIIMS Jammu,peripheral hospitals, and private hospitals.
The presence of senior and retired stalwarts in anesthesia from Jammu added immense value and prestige to the CME program. Their contributions to the discussions and deliberations were invaluable.
Dr. Ashutosh Gupta emphasized the importance of creating more critical care beds and decentralizing critical care services to improve healthcare outcomes. By increasing the number of critical care beds, hospitals can provide timely and effective care to critically ill patients, reducing the risk of complications and mortality.
The vote of thanks was addressed by Dr. Sucheta Hans, Joint Secretary, and Dr. Updesh Kumar, General Secretary, ISA Jammu.
