Legacy Waste Bio-mining project begins in Poonch
POONCH NOVEMBER 30: Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal, on Saturday inaugurated the project of Legacy Waste Bio-Mining and land recovery at Shankar Nagar -Poonch.
Biomining is a scientific process that involves the excavation, treatment, and separation of legacy waste, which is municipal solid waste (MSW) that has been collected and stored in landfills or on barren land for years. Biomining is an environmentally friendly technique that can help to clean up polluted sites and create valuable land from dumpsites.
Over 16000 metric ton legacy waste at the Shankar Nagar dumping ground will be bio-mined at a cost of Rs 82.20 Lakh in the next 02 months.
The waste fill over 4 acre of land will be re-claimed by completing the entire work by January next year. The work of bio-mining measuring 4 acres of land fill site having 16000 metric tons of legacy waste dumped therein will be completed within 02 months from the date of start by M/s WeVOIS Labs Private Limited, a Jaipur, Rajasthan-based firm at project cost of Rs 82.20 lacs.
The project will give a big relief to the residents from the foul smell and leachate oozing out of the garbage dump, which has been a major cause of the spread of various diseases, flies and dust. This initiative aims to significantly improve the environmental and sanitary conditions in the region by repurposing the retrieved land for developmental purposes and promoting sustainable waste management practices.
