POOJA THAKUR JAMMU, MAY 16 Amid the sweltering heat gripping the region, students of SPMR Commerce College, are grappling with a pressing issue: the defunct drinking water cooler outside their college. The malfunctioning cooler has left students with no choice but to purchase bottled water from nearby shops, adding to their daily expenses and inconvenience. The water cooler, which falls under the jurisdiction of Ward No. 19, has been out of order for weeks, exacerbating the situation as temperatures soar. "Water cooler needs repair and cleanliness," said Ram Singh, a local shopkeeper who has been witnessing the plight of the students firsthand. The cooler's non-functional state has not only deprived students of a basic amenity but also highlighted the need for urgent maintenance and hygiene measures. Aman, a student of SPMR Commerce College, expressed the frustration shared by many. "Students face a lot of problems," he remarked, pointing out the added financial burden and the discomfort of enduring the heat without access to cold, clean drinking water. The lack of functional drinking water facilities has prompted calls for swift action from the concerned authorities. The students are urging the Jammu Municipal Corporation to prioritize the repair and maintenance of the cooler to ensure it is hygienic and operational. The situation underscores a broader issue of maintaining public amenities, especially in educational institutions where the well-being of students should be paramount. With the summer months only beginning, addressing this problem promptly is crucial to prevent further inconvenience and ensure the health and comfort of the students. The community hopes that the spotlight on this issue will expedite the necessary repairs and set a precedent for better upkeep of essential facilities in the future.
