Kevin Pietersen defends Shubman Gill amidst poor form at No. 3

London, Jan 29 Shubman Gill failed with the bat in India's first Test match against England in Hyderabad. The India batter, who changed his position to No. 3 last year scored 23 and 0 in the opening Test match, continuing his poor run of form. Gill has had a string of low scores at the No. 3 position and has not managed to score a single halcentury, let alone a century in the last 5 Test matches. Several former cricketers have raised concerns on Shubman's form, including Zaheer Khan, who stated that the batter will be under scanner in the second Test match vs England in Vizag. Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen however has come in support of the batter and asked the critics to not write him off. Pietersen, while speaking on Jio Cinema said that Gill's Test average of 29.52 was not looking healthy but the youngster was given the No. 3 position base on his potential. "The average is not looking healthy and those numbers are a sight for sore eyes. You don’t want to look at them. But there is a reason why he is batting at No.3 it’s because of the kind of player that he is and what he can do. So I am not too bothered about two dismissals. What I would be bothered about is his performances in the second and third Test matches," Pietersen said. The former England.
