Mumbai, Jan 09 Rohit Sharma and ViratKohli returned to the Indian T20I side after more than a year's absence. The senior India duo have not played in T20Is since India's semi-final defeat against England in the T20 World Cup 2022. The duo returned to the line-up in a 3-match series against Afghanistan - which will be India's final international T20 assignment ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, set to be held in June this year. It is expected that the duo will feature in the T20 World Cup 2024 as well, set to be played in the Caribbean islands and the United States of America. Reacting to the selection of the duo, former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta said that he was surprised. Dasgupta said that he thought India had moved on from the senior India batters after their back to back failures in the 2021 and 2022 editions of the tournament. "I thought that the team has moved on in the T20I format. I am a little surprised. But the way that Rohit Sharma has played in the 50 over World Cup was great. The main criticism with the senior India players was the lack of intent in the T20 format," Dasgupta told Star Sports in an interview. The former India cricketer however argued that one would need ViratKohli's experience in the West Indies pitches.
