SHUBAM GUPTA/ POOJA THAKUR Jammu, May 19 Colonel Sanjay Apte during an interaction shares his journey as an Indian Army Officer and highlights the pros of an Officers’ life. Young Bites has engaged in an exclusive interview with Colonel Sanjay Apte. Q. How did you got inclined toward Indian Army? Ans: I had to do something for the country was a thought from my childhood. There can be no other profession like army to serve the nation, so that is why I wanted to join the Indian Army. I was an engineer before joining the army but I was not satisfied with that job. So I prepared for SSB and cleared in first attempt and got selected for Indian Army. Q. Tell us something about Officers’ life? Ans: Probably, I am the lucky one as I had been selected for Indian Army. As everyday is a new challenge. Now it has been more than 30 years and after 18 postings, I am being posted here in Jammu. Our job is 24X365. During my first posting it was very difficult for me to face the harsh training of Armed forces but later I started enjoying. Life is very organized and disciplined for us. I have experienced some of the great heights and severe cold. Our bunkers are our homes and soldiers become family. In Army or any Defense Forces life is all about training hard physical and mentally, and pushing our self to the absolute limit. The operations are definitely tough and the administration is much strict. So I guess life cannot be explained as how it is, because for defense personnel normal is to be in action. Q. Share something about the Siachen posting? Ans: Besides the twin military threats from Pakistan and China, the climate condition are the biggest challenge for the armed forces. Temperature in Siachen glacier in winters drops to below -60 degrees. There are also constant threats of avalanches. Soldiers stationed in the area are affected by a range of fatal altitude related ailments like frost bites. Q. What is your message for young generation? Ans: Indian Army is the best option for those people who want to serve to their motherland. Boys who want to join army complete the selection procedure in which physical, medical and mental ability required. Nowadays Army is providing major facilities to soldiers in financial and medical aspects.
