POOJA THAKUR JAMMU, JULY 11 In a remarkable achievement, five judokas from Jammu and Kashmir, all specially abled, have secured their places in the Indian Deaf Judoka team for the upcoming Tenth Asia Pacific Deaf Games in Tehran, Iran. The athletes, hailed as trailblazers in the region, will compete in their respective weight categories from October 16 to 28. Chief Coach Suraj Bhan Singh, representing the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, expressed his pride in the athletes' achievements. "Five judokas emerged victorious and were selected by the Indian Deaf Judoka team to be a part of the squad for the 10th Asia Pacific Deaf Games in Tehran, Iran," Coach Singh stated. “The selected athletes include Rakesh Singh in the below 66 kg category and Sonam Chib in the below 70 kg category, alongside Shikha Kumari and Rohit Kumar. Their selection marks a significant milestone not only for their individual careers but also for representing India at an international platform dedicated to deaf athletes”, Coach said. This opportunity not only underscores the athletes' dedication and skill but also highlights the inclusive sporting spirit fostered within the region. The upcoming Asia Pacific Deaf Games are anticipated to host a diverse range of competitions, showcasing the talent and perseverance of deaf athletes from across the Asia Pacific region.
