As a part of public outreach programme, "Thana Diwas", an initiative by the Government of J&K aimed to bridge the gap between the police and the public and addressing the grievances of common masses and to promote transparency and accountability in policing foster community policing and public cooperation,DGP J&K Sh. In his address, DGP J&K said that ‘Thana Diwas’ is an initiative taken under the directions of Lt Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha to extend Police services to the people of J&K. Thana Diwas is a medium to come more close to the general people, he said, adding, since its launch it has been organized in all the districts of J&K continuously and same continues this this year with more enthusiasm.

He emphasized the need for a collective societal effort to curb the rising menace of drug abuse
Director General of Police (DGP) J&K Sh. Nalin Prabhat-IPS today said that terrorism and drug peddling are equally grave threats to the society and said, “I would rate fight against drugs and fight against terrorism on equal pedestal”.

Speaking at Thana Diwas in Jammu, the DGP Sh. Nalin Prabhat-IPS highlighted that drug trafficking is an organized crime network, with narcotics being smuggled from western regions through the Pakistan border, allegedly controlled by ISI.
"Police and law enforcement agencies are actively addressing the issue, but society must step forward. Even school children, in uniform, are found selling small bags of drugs and other contraband substance. There is a lack of supervision and control from parents and society at large," he remarked.
He said that J&K Police is making all efforts to eradicate the drug menace as well to aware people especially youth against the ill effects of drugs. “We have to take action against all those involved in drug peddling and its trade and Narcotics problem is not a lesser challenge than terrorism, he added.
The state police chief said that we have to stand and work mutually to stop this trend too for better tomorrow.
Addressing about deployment within the police force, he said that those who perform well will be rewarded with appropriate postings. He assured that officers who work for the country will get their desired postings immediately. Adding that systemic changes take time, he remarked, “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” signalling a long-term approach to improving the force’s functioning in Jammu and Kashmir.
On women’s safety, he warned that if an Investigating Officer (IO) fails to file a chargesheet within 60 days, strict action will be taken.
