VG: Security of the Jawans, who are protecting the people, is a big issue, what type of the facilities you are providing to your men?
DS: The J&K Police is “fighting a proxy war for the last 30 years and by its supreme sacrifices, the force has earned the respect of people of the state as well as the country.
A number of jawans and officers of the force have sacrificed their precious lives for the security and integrity of the state and are still struggling to maintain the peace in the state.
By putting their life into the danger, they are doing admirable services to maintain the communal harmony and the peace in this state.
After assuming the chair of this department, I visited in far flung and other areas of Jammu and Kashmir to get interact with my men.
To fulfill the needs of my men is my priority and I am fulfilling my commitment.
VG: Police personnel are not getting facilities at par with the jawans of paramilitary forces, why?
DS: To provide the facilities to the cop has been prescribed and the rules in this regard have been framed. We are trying to provide them all facilities they needed. In these facilities, we are providing them better accommodation facilities; ration facilities and balanced diet, so that they can perform their duties in far flung areas well.
Meanwhile, there are separate messes in which the jawans can prepare food as per their own requirement.
VG: The ration money, provided to the state police is not at par with the CRPF, why?
DS: This is true that the state police personnel are granted very less hardship risk and ration money as compared to the allowances granted to CRPF, who discharge law and order duties together in the state.
I wanted to tell you that our new Governor as well as the advisors is very concerned over the issue and time to time they hike these allowances. But this is also true that our state police are getting better allowances and facilities as compared to the police in other states.
VG: As being a militancy infested state, cops are prone to many risks, what you do to boost up their mental abilities?
DS: There are many challenges ahead for our men, to maintain communal harmony and the peace. I feel proud that my men are performing well by upholding professionalism amid a challenging situation.
Meanwhile, to boost the morale among our officers, we hold general darbars and open meetings with the constabulary and officers and as being the head of this organization, it is my duty to provide them every facility, so that they can directly interact with their family and loved ones. This is not all that the top cop of Jammu and Kashmir Police, DGP Dilbag Singh has to say about his department. More will be discussed in next part of Face to Face with the Dilbag Singh.
