VG: The condition of transport department in our state is not up to the mark, why?
SS: This is true that the transport sector in our state is not good enough and to make it better, we need for adopting and incorporating innovative ideas for improving and streamlining functioning of the Transport department. Besides bringing efficiency and transparency in the working of the transport department, there is a need for providing better and efficient transport facilities to the public.
VG: What steps will you suggest for improving the public transport system in our state?
SS: To improve and strengthen the road transport system in our state, there is need that Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), State Motor Garages (SMG) and J&K State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) should work in unison to improve and strengthen public transport system in the state.
In this regard, I am reviewing the general functioning and year wise achievements of these respective departments.
VG: What is the main function of State Motor Garage in our state?
SS: This is a very important part of our department and the main function of State Motor Garages is entrusted with the responsibility of providing transport facilities to the Council of Ministers, State government functionaries, state guests etc. Besides it also provides transport facilities to various agencies connected with the maintenance of law and order, security and during exigencies like floods and earthquakes.
VG: What type of more services is your department providing to the people?
SS: MVD is a very important department, which is directly linked with the people in many ways. To provide better services, I have directed the concerned to make department more public centric by bring transparency through online service system.
In this regard, I have asked the concerned district officers to conduct regular public awareness camps in Schools, Colleges, and Universities to make people aware about the online registration for availing various services, traffic rules and regulations to reduce accident rate across the state.
