Closing Ceremony of Mushroom Farming project by Indian Army at Thatri , Doda

YB News Jammu,Oct 30 Closing ceremony for the 90 days long mushroom farming for inspiring farmers of the region was held at Thatri in District Doda (J&K). The sale of final Mushroom harvest through Mushroom Bazar cultivated by the beneficiaries was organised Indian Army in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture. Commercial Mushroom Farming project was a 90 days venture that aimed to provide economic independence and social inclusion among the locals. The programme is also a pilot project for the villagers hailing from far-flung areas of the Doda region who were imparted training on scientific farming alongwith necessary infrastructure and agricultural raw material support, required for the venture. It is for the first time that Mushroom Farming has been introduced in the area by the Indian Army along with Department of Agriculture, Doda in Thatri village. To make the initiative economically sustainable, the army explored avenues to collaborate these like-minded farmers for a farming SHG. Grown and packaged within the home with few initial struggles, the beneficiaries finally have achieved noticeable profits from the project. Out of 10 Mushroom grower farmers, 10 farmers came with their final harvest (Last flush) with a yield of approximately 3.80 Kilograms each and a grand total of 38 Kilograms produce. All beneficiaries of the project than ked the Indian Army and Agriculture Department for the assistance in earning through mushroom cultivation. The project has been terminated for the year 2022 as, from Nov the climate and temperature does not favours the mushroom cultivation. With an aim to commence the project again in the coming year, the beneficiaries were assured by the Army and Agriculture Department of all assistance for undertaking.
