Romeo Force commemorates Infantry Day at Poonch and Rajouri

YB News Jammu,Oct 28 Infantry Day was celebrated across the Indian Army on 27 Oct 22. The day earmarks the landing of 1st Battalion of The Sikh Regiment at Srinagar Airfield on 27 Oct 1947, eventually leading to the defeat of the tribal invaders who were supported by Pakistan. During this stoic defence of the Valley, the Commanding Officer of the Unit, Lt Col Dewan Ranjit Rai, setting a benchmark for bravery and valour, made the supreme sacrifice, while leading his troops from the front. His courage was honoured by award of the first Maha Vir Chakra of the country. The 76th Infantry Day was celebrated by laying wreaths in the memory of the fallen brave hearts who will continue to inspire and motivate the present and future generation of soldiers. Addressing troops, GOC, Romeo Force, exhorted all ranks to rededicate themselves in the service of the nation and pledge to uphold the traditions of the Indian Army. Other events conducted to commemorate this historic day included Amity, Quami Ekta, Veterans Grievance Redressal Meets and a picnic at the banks of Surankot River for Veer Naris.
