CHANGING FACE OF SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE IN J&K

VIKAS GUPTA Jammu, Aug 7 The sports infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir is improving. Regular sports events in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A) three years ago has made it an emerging hub of sports. Sportspersons of Jammu and Kashmir are excelling on national as well as international platforms. According to the Sports Council of Jammu and Kashmir, around 500 athletes won medals at various games at the national level.
This is the result of better training, world-class sports infrastructure and the growing culture of sports in the past few years. The J&K Sports Council is playing a pivotal role in building sports infrastructure and nurturing the sporting talent in the Union Territory. The youth of Jammu and Kashmir who were indulged in drugs or now going into sports to make their careers. The judo Academy in MA Stadium Jammu is providing world-class training. The football schools in Jammu, Poonch and Reasi have been developed with the full infrastructure required for the football lovers. The fencing has been one of the favourite sports but there were not much facilities for those who wanted to make their carrier in fencing. But now the fencing schools have been developed in Jammu. At Bana Singh stadium RS Pura the training for fencing is being given to the Sportspersons. KK Haaku Synthetic turf Jammu is fully prepared to impart a good training to the hockey players. Under Khelo India scheme of central government, Centres are open in Kulgam, Reasi, Udhampur and training is being imparted to the sports persons. The ex-athletes are giving training in these centres. The lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir has recently inaugurated the fully equipped Bakshi stadium in Srinagar. An overwhelming response was given by the young generation of Kashmir and they participated with full enthusiasm in the inauguration of fully renovated stadium in Srinagar. Under the floodlights, football matches were played at TRC Srinagar and thousands of youth participated and showed their interest towards sports which clearly showed that now the violence is not their choice. The overwhelming support of youth clearly shows theory support towards the sports. This trend is augmenting government efforts to build sports as a Mass movement for the well-being and positive engagement of youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
