International Museum Week celebration extended for 3 more days

YB News Jammu,May 19 In view of overwhelming response shown by the public towards the special exhibition on Folk Art in Dogra Art Museum to mark International Museum Day, the Department has decided to extend the “International Museum Week” celebrations till May 22, 2022. The International Council of Museums (ICOM) celebrates International Museum Day every year on May 18. The objective of celebration of International Museum Day is to raise public awareness of the fact that museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among people. The Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums has organized a special exhibition on Folk Art in Dogra Art Museum, Jammu. The decision has been taken on the direction of Pardeep Kumar, Director Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K for spreading mass awareness about the Art and Culture. A large number of students and scholars of educational institutions of Jammu visited the Museum and evinced keen interest in Folk Art objects and artifacts which are on display inside the Museum. The students/scholars of these educational institutions were given a guided tour of various galleries of the Museum where they were made aware of history and significance of various art objects by well-trained guides. The center for studies in Museology, University of Jammu also participated in the event by showcasing its collection of Folk Art during the special exhibition. Prominent citizens and the members of civil society also visited the exhibition and praised the initiative of the department. The event was closely monitored and supervised by Dr. Sangeeta Sharma, Assistant Director and Mukul Magotra, Curator, Dogra Art Museum, Jammu.
