Lucknow, May 19 Amid the controversy surrounding the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Historian and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) professor Rajiv Srivastava said that Gyanvapi was a temple and will remain so, adding that what will the court decide when ample evidence has been found already. While speaking to India Today about the mosque survey report findings, Srivastava claimed that Mughal ruler Aurangzeb had ordered the demolition of the temple, on the top of which the mosque has been built. “Aurangzeb's order is also there. There is a mention in the books about the breaking of the temple,” said Srivastava. “Lotus flower, Ganesha's figure, Shivling, everything has been found. According to the Quran, a mosque cannot be built at a disputed site,” added the BHU professor.
