New Delhi, May 13 Delhi AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan has been granted bail by a local court a day after he was arrested, on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of Rs 50,000 each. A case was registered against Khan for rioting and obstructing government work. The legislator was picked up by the Delhi Police last night after clashes broke out between the protesters and the police during a demolition drive in Delhi's Madanpur Khadar area earlier in the day. Five others were also arrested. Present at Madanpur Khadar, the site of the clash, Amanatullah Khan had said, “I am ready to go to jail if it saves the houses of poor people. There is no encroachment here. I will support them (the civic body) in demolition if there is any encroachment.” Amanatullah Khan has been active in protests against the BJP-ruled municipal corporation's a n t i - e n c r o a c h m e n t drive in the area and was detained by the police on Thursday afternoon. Earlier in the week, he was seen resisting a similar drive in Shaheen Bagh. An FIR was registered against him hours after the SDMC filed a complaint against the MLA and his supporters over their protests at Shaheen Bagh - the epicenter of the monthslong demonstration against the Centre’s C i t i z e n s h i p Amendment Act (CAA). He was charged for “voluntarily obstructing a public servant in discharge of his duties”, for “assaulting or using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty” and for “acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention”.
