Down with Covid, Avtar Singh Bhadana not to contest UP assembly polls from Jewar

New Delhi, Jan 20 Former BJP legislator Avtar Singh Bhadana, who joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) last week, will not be contesting the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls from the Jewar seat. Avtar Singh Bhadana’s aide on Thursday announced the veteran politician’s decision to withdraw his nomination from the Jewar assembly constituency after contracting Covid-19. Bhadana, 64, recently tested positive for Covid- 19. Last week, the Samajwadi Party-RLD alliance had announced its first list of 29 candidates for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly polls. Avtar Singh Bhadana was named as the RLD candidate from Jewar, in Gautam Buddh Nagar district. Just days before that, Bhadana had defected from the BJP to the RLD. He had represented Muzaffarnagar district's Meerapur assembly segment in the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha. Prior to joining the BJP, he had been a four-time Congress MP from Faridabad in Haryana. Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases from February 10 and the results will be declared on March 10. Polling in the Jewar assembly constituency, currently held by BJP's Dhirendra Singh, is scheduled for February 10. Jewar has 3.46 lakh voters.
