T K NANDANAN With the winter already set in, Christmas is around the corner but Omicron is already at the door intending to mar the merry Christmas. Omicron comes at a time when people are preparing themselves for the celebration of Christmas. Christmas trees are being decorated and put up every home in England and families are preparing for get-together and travel when the monster comes in to mar the celebrations. Fears are being expressed that Christmas will be affected by the arrival of the Omicron variant of the Covid virus from South Africa. Two cases of Omicron attack have been detected by the British government and this has indeed given sleepless nights to the UK government. Anyway, Christmas plans thrown into doubt as new Covid variant arrives in the UK. On Friday night itself British Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a hastily convened conference at 10 Downing Street to announce that wearing face mask coverings would be compulsory on public transport and in shops in England from Tuesday. One change has already been implemented. Ten countries- South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Angola, Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia are now on the UK’s travel red list. Elsewhere, the condition is no better. New cases were confirmed on Saturday in Germany and Italy with Belgium, Israel and Hong Kong also reporting that the variant has been found in travellers. Omicron variant was already in the US too. The Netherlands confirmed 13 cases of the new Omicron variantof the coronavirus and Australia found two on Sunday as the countries half a world apart became the latest todetect it in travellers arriving from southern Africa. Israel is to close its borders to all foreigners later on Sunday in a bid to stem the spread of the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus. So, this Christmas too, people will have to restrict their celebrations and people have to travel less in a bid to disallow Omicron. In the true sense, Christmas is the birthday of Jesus Christ, who was born more than 2000 years ago as the incarnation of God in human flesh. The Bible, the Holy Scripture had prophesied and referred to Jesus Christ throughout it from the Genesis(beginning) to the Revelations(end). He is not only the king of the Jews, but the King of kings and Lord of lords. Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords is to be worshipped and not celebrated on December 25, every year. He is the one to be worshipped, adored and celebrated every day in life. Accepting Him as one’s Savior and putting complete faith in Him is the real celebration of Christmas.
