Surat, Oct 15 A25-year-old woman from Devbhumi Dwarka district of Gujarat died on Wednesday after she was allegedly beaten up with a hot iron chain by an exorcist and her relatives, “to ward off an angry deity”, reported Times Now News. Five people, including the exorcist, have been arrested in connection with the case. The deceased was identified as Ramila Solanki of Arambhada village in Mithapur taluka. She had gone to Okhamadhi village with her husband Vala on Wednesday to celebrate Navratri. An official said Ramila suddenly started shaking. When Ramesh Solanki, an exorcist, noticed this, he convinced others that she was “possessed by an angry deity". According to a report published by The Times of India, he then asked people to thrash her to ward off the deity. He even said that if she was not thrashed, she would kill everyone there. This spurred her relatives to brand Ramila with firewood and thrash her with a hot iron chain, eventually killing her. Later, Vala filed a police complaint. Inspector P B Gadhvi said police have arrested five persons.
