ARMY ORGANISES INTER DISTRICT CRICKET TOURNAMENT

Jammu, Sep 24 With an aim to channelise and inculcate sportsmen spirit amongst the youth, Indian Army organised an “Inter District Cricket League” for the youth of Rajouri and Reasi district at Kotranka and Sungri (J&K). This tournament has been conceived as a talent hunt initiative for sporting talent in Rajouri and Reasi district. The tournament features 21 teams from two districts. The teams were selected through intensely contested inter tehsil competition. The players and the villagers were enthusiastic about the league matches and have turned up in large strength to witness them. In strongly contested final match, played between Kotranka and Kotli players displayed their sporting skills and gave pitched fight. Kotranka team won the finals match. The grand trophy to Kotranka team and individual prizes were awarded to team members by Indian Army. Incentive prizes were instituted to provide tangible acknowledgment of players love for sports. These incentives also attracted, engaged and retained talent. The event has generated tremendous interest and enthusiasm amongst the village youth and residents. The tournament developed cohesiveness amongst the youth of the area and has strengthened existing cordial relationship with Indian Army. On the occasion, Indian Army applauded the youth for their efforts and encouraged them to make the best use of such a platform to display their sporting talent and also laid emphasis on the importance of games and sports for their overall development.
