ARMY ORGANISES SHAHEED RIFLEMAN SUNIL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

Poonch, Sep 21 In an effort to integrate village youth with national mainstream and to further strengthen the bond between Indian Army and AWAAM, “Shaheed Riflemen Sunil Kumar” Memorial Football Tournament was organised at remote village of Jhullas in district Poonch (J&K). The event was to commemorate the supreme sacrifice by Riflemen Sunil Kumar in service of the nation on 07 Jul 2004. Matches were conducted on league basis. In strongly contested Final match, played between City Football Club and Dashmesh Football Club the players displayed their sporting skills and gave pitched fight for each and every goal. Dashmesh Football Club won the finals match. A large number of players participated and 365 Villagers attended the event. These matches were organised to inculcate the values of sportsmanship amongst AWAAM youth and for promoting sports activities in this region. The youth and the villagers expressed their gratitude to Indian Army in promoting sports in this remote area.
