ER ABHA GUPTA/ POOJA THAKUR Jammu, Sep 15 Q: What kind of game is this and share your experiences. A: Para rowing is a special kind of rowing in which para athletes participate. It is meant for specially abled people. Fortunately our team won a bronze medal. It was a proud moment for me because we were not known by our names but by our country’s name. This event was organised in South Korea and the day our team won was the day of Diwali. We felt like a soldier representing our nation. My motive is to motivate other specially abled people that you can do whatever you want to do in your life. We should not focus on our disabilities but we should focus on our abilities. Q: What is the one thing which kept on motivating you? A: I started my sports career at the age of 35. It is the age when normally females leave sports and settle down in their lives. Challenges were many because leaving home at this age was not so easy. During school days I had a passion for dancing. Dancing made my soul alive, yes after the accident many things changed in my life. Q: In current times we see that youngsters commit suicide after getting disheartened. What do you have to say? A: Sometimes some incidents prove to be turning point. For me the accident changed my life forever because I was 18 years old when I met with an accident in which I lost my leg. That moment is tough to handle but once that time passes we can come back to the track. Q: What are your future plans? A: I am preparing for Asian games and then para Olympics. My father has always motivated me to prepare for the next event. Family is the pillar, if the family supports then one can touch the sky.
