4 held after viral video shows them stripping, beating woman

New Delhi, Sep 13 Four people were arrested in Karnataka’s Yadgir district on Monday for allegedly beating and stripping a woman naked. The police nabbed the four men after the video of the said incident, which took place a year ago, went viral. The accused have been identified as Ningaraju (24), Ayyappa (23), Bheemashankar (28) and Sharanu (22). While Ningaraju is an autorickshaw driver, Ayyappa works at a petrol pump. Bheemashankar owns a paan shop and Sharanu is a street vendor. According to the police, the incident took place a year ago on the Yadgir-Shahapur state highway on the outskirts of the town. The case has been taken up now as the woman did not file the complaint earlier, the police said. Based on the woman's complaint, the police have booked the four men under sections 354(B), 366, 394, 376(D), 504, 506 of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of the SC/ST Act. In the video, the group of men could be seen stripping her naked and then beating her with sugarcane sticks. The woman could be seen pleading with the men to let her go, but they say that no one would find out even if they killed and burned her. According to police, the accused men were related to the woman and the assault was carried out as an act of revenge.
