Er Abhà Gupta/Pooja Thakur Q: What are the challenges being faced while working at this post? A: Child Welfare Committee is meant for the benefits of children. State government has established it in every district. It was challenging because the Juvenile Justice Act was recently introduced in J&K and CWC were established but there was no awareness at all. So initial years were challenging. In early times parents used to treat children as their property. Even in today’s scenario in last three years I have prevented 24 child marriages to happen in Jammu. Nine infant girls were thrown out on the roads. Even in today’s society if you see a 12 year old girl forced to get married then one can imagine how developed our society is. Even when the parents know that 18 years is the legal age of a girl to get married, still we see that parents force their girl child to get married at early age. Q: How much Corporation you get from the people? A: Many times the children themselves call us on our numbers. Recently I got a call from a 12 year ago old girl who was getting forcibly married. Child marriage has penetrated badly in our society. Especially during the Covid times many parents thought that it was the perfect time for their small children to get married. The worst thing is that the whole community supports child marriage. Many times when a team goes to a village to stop a child marriage they are badly beaten by the villagers. At the end I want to give a message to all the parents that they should make the Aadhaar card of their children so that God forbid if any kid gets misplaced or lost, with the help of Aadhaar card the child can easily be traced.
