New Delhi, July 20 It was not a good start for India in their 3-day practice match against County Select XI in Durham as they lost their top 3 for not many on Tuesday. India were reduced to 80 for 3 at Lunch on Day 1 of the match at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le- Street. India made quite a few surprising calls as they rested captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane along with off-spinner R Ashwin and pacers Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami. The team was led by Rohit Sharma who won the toss and opted to bat on a bright day in Durham. A lot is expected of Rohit Sharma who is on his maiden tour of England as a Test opener but the senior batter managed just 9 runs in the first innings. Rohit fell to a bouncer from 22-yearold fast bowler Lyndon James. Rohit tried to pull one but was hurried by the delivery and was caught in the outfield. Rohit and his opening partner Mayank Agarwal added 33 runs for the opening stand but it was the latter who dominated the partnership. Agarwal, who is expected to open with Rohit in the absence of injured Shubman Gill, got off to a flying start but he was cleaned up by James for 28. Agarwal left a big gap between bat and pad as he tried an expansive cover drive as the ball crashed onto the stumps. Cheteshwar Pujara, who struggled to get going in the World Test Championship final in Southampton in June, spent some valuable time in the middle, hitting 21 runs in 47 balls but he was stumped when he tried to run down the wicket and play a defensive shot to spinner Jack Carson.
