Computer graduates seek regular jobs, protest against Rajasthan govt proposal

Jaipur, June 18 C o mpu te r gradu a te s in Rajasthan are up in arms against the Asho k Geh l otled g o vernm ent over its purported proposal to recruit them on a contractual basis. Raj a sthan has ar o und three lak h computer grad uates, the majori ty of who m are cu rren tly unemployed or working in other sectors. Around 20,000 of them work in the private sector. Consider the case of a 25- year-old Hitesh Sharma. Hitesh, a B.Tech graduate from the 20 15-16 b a tch, sp ent two ye a rs s tu dying f o r SS C but failed. Following that, he hoped to get hired as a com puter teac her. Howeve r, th e government has failed to provide adequate job openin gs, des pite a severe shortage of computer teachers in schools and IT professionals in government departments. "I would like the government to ensure that we are hired on a permanent basis rather t han on a contractual basis as several employees in other departme nt s have be en fired by the government without ex planation. I have bee n looking f o r work for the p a st five years. Several computer grad uates have be en forced to work in other fields due to a lack of job opportunities in the government sect o r," sa i d Hitesh Sharma. Several computer graduates told India Today that a pr o posal was unde r consideration by the government to recruit computer teachers on a contractual basis.
