Ghaziabad, June 18 The Ghaziabad court on Friday granted bail to four more accused of thrashing 72-year-old Sufi Abdul Samad Saifi in the Loni assault case. On Thursday, the police had arrested the four who were presented in court on Friday. The accused were identified as Himanshu, Babu, Anas and Shabez. So far, the police have arrested a total of nine people in the case. Of them, eight have been granted bail. Only main accused Parvesh Gujjar, who was the first to be arrested, remains under police custody. On June 5, 72-year-old Sufi Abdul Samad Saifi was thrashed by a group of people. The assailants beat him and also chopped off his beard. A video of the attack went viral on social media a few days later and was shared by many. On June 7, the elderly Muslim man lodged an FIR against unidentified persons. He was accompanied by local Samajwadi Party leader Ummed Pahalwan Idrisi. Later, the victim took part in a Facebook Live during which he said he was not only thrashed by the assailants, but also forced to chant 'Jai Shri Ram'. However, the Ghaziabad Police which is probing the case has insisted there is no communal angle to the incident and the man knew the assailants personally. On Tuesday night, the Ghaziabad Police filed an FIR against Twitter, some journalists and two Congress leaders for sharing the video online allegedly with an alleged intention to "provoke communal unrest".
