WHY INDIA INSPIRES AFRICA FOR A BETTER TOMORROW

What comes to your mind when you hear or read the name ‘Africa’? It may be the grasslands, exotic flora and fauna, wildlife reserve, starving hunger and poverty. What if someone says, ‘the African continent as a whole will be a prominent superpower in the near future’. It will be nothing short of a surprise for most. Africa, the second largest continent, home to one of the oldest human civilisation, also called the mother of all continents may very well have been a superpower at its time. But if the present condition of the continent was to be described by one word, it would be ‘devastated’ Africa stands quite close to India and China in terms of population with a figure close to 1.25 billion. Yet only India stands as an inspiration for the entire continent of Africa. Even though, China pursued a similar path with a huge population and similar problems to where it stands at present, it does not qualify as an influence for the continent as it developed with a different set of principles, a dogmatic single-party communist government showcasing no respect for democracy, freedom of speech or otherwise, Whereas India, with a similar background to that in Africa, an immensely diverse and divided population by regions, languages, culture and religion, struggled to succeed at first but promises a bright future for its citizens as a thriving democracy. India stands much closer to the African continent in terms of the struggles faced by it. The various clans in Africa resemble the caste system in India, Like Africa’s present India, suffered from severe food shortages in the past until the green revolution, India suffered from electricity connectivity until very recently after successfully electrifying nearly the entire nation, Both Africa and India have struggled from water supply shortages, internal disputes, wars and this still remains a challenge for both through the future. Unlike the People’s Republic of China which has almost established itself as a global superpower with a different working note, India stands as the next candidate as a future democratic global superpower with its rapidly rising economic and military strength, it stands as a future power to balance out the Chinese supremacy and tactics. India may very well be the supplier of technology, electricity, goods and most importantly strategic assistance to the African nations in future witnessing the underlying mutual aspects of both. The possibility of India and an African union of nations as permanent members in UNSC is not a mere thought but a matter of time.
