New Delhi, May 9 Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hinted that the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 will be played at some point of the year despite the tedious task of identifying another window in a packed cricket calendar. As it turns out, board president, Sourav Ganguly is not too hopeful of hosting the remainder of the tournament in India. The BCCI suspended IPL 2021 indefinitely on May 4 after positive Covid-19 cases emerged in bio-bubbles across multiple franchises in Ahmedabad and Delhi. As many as 29 matches were played before the call was taken. India players and a section of overseas contingent have returned home after the BCCI announced the decision earlier this month. Sourav Ganguly has said it's too early to discuss the details of finding another window for IPL 2021 but pointed out that it might become difficult to host the remainder of the tournament in India, which has been badly hit by a second wave of Covid-19 pandemic with the country registering over 4,00,000 new cases per day over the last few days. Reports have emerged that the UK might be a possible venue or the BCCI might even take the IPL back to the UAE if the T20 World Cup is moved out of the country. "No. India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organisational hazards like 14-day quarantine. It can't happen in India. This quarantine is tough to handle. Too early to say how we can find a slot to complete the IPL," Ganguly told Sportstar when asked if the remainder of the IPL season could be held before or after the England series. Meanwhile, Ganguly also said the BCCI would have carried on with IPL 2021 had positive Covid-19 cases not emerged from the bio-bubbles of franchises. As many as 8 players and a couple of support staff.
