Man arrested for murder of 11-year-old daughter

Chennai, Apr 21 The Ernakulam city police have arrested a man for the alleged murder of his 11-year-old daughter over a financial crisis. The accused has been identified as Sanu Mohan who lived in Ernakulam. The victim has been identified as Vaiga. The victim's body was recovered from the Muttar river in Kochi on March 22, and that is when the case came to light. The accused was on the run after the girl's body was found. The incident took place after the accused picked up his daughter from his mother's house on the pretext of taking her to meet a relative. Police had initially suspected that the accused had died by suicide by jumping into the river. But on conducting the search operation it was found that he was on the run. The probe led the police to Karnataka from where Sanu was held on April 18. According to the police, Sanu Mohan has confessed to the crime. He said he was going through a financial crisis, and owed huge sums of money to many. Unable to handle the pressure, he decided to commit suicide with his daughter. However, after committing the crime he fled to Tamil Nadu in his car and then to Karnataka, said Kochi City Police Commissioner C Nagaraju.
