Kandy, Apr 21 Bangladesh produced a fantastic batting performance on Day 1 of the first Test against Sri Lanka on Wednesday thanks to Najmul Hossain Shanto's maiden international hundred in Kandy. Bangladesh reached 302 for 2 at stumps with Najmul Hossain unbeaten on 126 along with captain Mominul Haque at the other end on 64 not out. The knock came at a crucial time for Bangladesh who had lost opener Saif Hassan in the 2nd over after Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat. Najmul added 144 for the second wicket with Tamim Iqbal (90) before teaming up with his skipper Mominul to stitch another big stand which is already worth 150 and still going strong. "I worked really hard in the last few months and I wasn't scoring runs, but I knew if I stick around and play my natural game I can score and I'm really happy. Mentally I'm thinking very positively and that has helped me a lot. "Today I was much relaxed while batting and I wasn't thinking too much about when and where to score, my thought process was just to watch the ball and play accordingly. We have to bat well and the surface might start spinning from day 3," Najmul said after the day's play. Fast bowler Vishwa Fernando was the only wickettaker for the Sri Lankans, getting rid of both openers in the 2nd and 39th overs respectively.
