WE SUPPORT ENGAGEMENT BETWEEN UN AND REGIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: JAISHANKAR AT UNSC

New Delhi, Apr 20 Minister of External Affairs, Dr S Jaishankar, addressed an open debate at United Nations Security Council (UNSC) over enhancing cooperation between the UN and regional and sub-regional organisations for finding better solutions to conflicts in their respective regions. "We support engagement between the UN and regional and sub-regional organizations, in line with the UN Charter," said the External Affairs Minister. Emphasizing the current stature of the world order under stress, Dr Jaishankar highlighted the importance of regional cooperation with the UN and other frameworks for successfully addressing the contemporary challenges and conflicts.Reiterating support for this initiative, Dr Jaishankar stated India's positive role in cooperation with regional organisations like ASEAN and BIMSTEC. "We believe that this partnership is inevitable for responding collectively, coherently, and decisively to effectively prevent, manage and resolve violent conflicts and promote peace and development," concluded Dr Jaishankar.
