New Delhi, Apr 20 Every election season, it is common to hear reports of police seizing liquor, cash and illegal arms intended to influence voters. But in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha, the candidates seem to have taken a more edible route. According to a report, UP Police on Monday seized 30 kg cottage cheese, commonly known as paneer, from a candidate's brother. Gajendra Singh, brother of a candidate for the post of village pradhan in Chakori village, was reportedly caught with the cottage cheese. Quoting the police, the Times of India reported that Gajendra Singh intended to distribute the cheese to lure voters for his brother Deep Chand. The UP Panchayat Polls are being held in four phases between April 15 and April 29. Amroha district went to the polls on April 19. Gajendra Singh has been booked for violating the model code of conduct. "Cops raided a village and seized 30kg of paneer and arrested Gajendra Singh, brother of a candidate for village head's post. In addition, a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections," Amroha Superintendent of Police Suniti was quoted as saying by the English daily. Interestingly, this is not the first time that a candidate in the district has been caught trying to influence voters with food items. A few days ago, the police booked another candidate for distributing 100kg rasgullas. According to the report, the police also cracked down on those making illicit liquor and illegal arms. They busted 16 illegal arms-making factories, seizing 461 weapons in Budaun, Amroha and Bijnor districts.
