MS Dhoni sets new record as he completes 200 matches as CSK captain

New Delhi, Apr 19 MS Dhoni has become the first player to captain a franchise for 200 times in T20 cricket. The former India captain walked out for the toss as Chennai Super Kings skipper for the 200th time. Notably, Dhoni had completed 200 T20 matches for the 3-time Indian Premier League champions only on Friday. MS Dhoni completed the milestone on Monday as his side took on former IPL champions Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Dhoni has played 201 matches for CSK but he played under Suresh Raina in one of those games in a Champions League T20 fixture in 2012. Virat Kohli, notably, had become the first play to represent a franchise 200 times. MS Dhoni is featuring in his 207th match in the IPL. He holds the record for most matches as captain in T20 cricket -- 286 matches for Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant, India and Indians. The 2nd on the list is former West Indies captain Darren Sammy who has skippered in T20 cricket 208 times. Notably, Chennai Super Kings had celebrated MS Dhoni's 200th match for the franchise with a cakecutting ceremony. The likes of Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja among other teammates celebrated the landmark occasion. Dhoni celebrated the landmark match helping Chennai Super Kings open their account. With the likes of Deepak Chahar and Moeen Ali stepping up, CSK defeated Punjab Kings in Mumbai by 6 wickets. On Monday, MS Dhoni lost the toss and opposition captain Sanju Samson opted to field as teams bowling second have struggled with the dew at the Wankhede Stadium. Dhoni opted for an unchanged XI despite the availability of Lungi Ngidi. When recalling his journey in the IPL with Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni said he felt old and took a cheeky dig at the rivalry between CSK and Mumbai Indians over their home venue in IPL 2021. "Makes me feel very old and it has been a very long journey [on playing 200 matches for CSK]. It started in 2008 - played in South A f r i c a , Dubai, and b a c k h o m e . N e v e r thought Mumbai wo u l d be our home," he had said.
