Maxwell, de Villiers power Royal Challengers to 3rd straight win in IPL 2021

Chennai, Apr 18 Royal Challengers Bangalore stretched their unbeaten streak to 3 matches in a row on Sunday as they registered a 38-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 10 to return to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 points table. Chasing a mammoth 205 for victory, KKR were restricted to 166 for 8 in 20 overs on the back of some superb bowling from spinners Kyle Jamieson, Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. KKR tried their best to make a fist of the run chase but kept losing wickets at regular intervals which led to their downfall. Gill got the two-time champions off to a flying start with his 9-ball 21 while Shakib made a valiant xx off xx balls but the lack of partnerships really hurt KKR's cause in Chennai. Andre Russell (31) and Shakib Al Hasan (26) provided some fireworks in the final few overs which reignited KKR's hopes but Kyle Jamieson's double strike in the 18th over ended the contest there and t h e n . Jamieson bagged 3 wickets while Harshal Patel and Chahal grabbed 2 each and Washington Sundar took one. Earlier, some questionable captaincy from Morgan let the opposition off the hook which led to RCB reaching 204 for 4 in 20 overs after electing to bat first. Mystery spinner Varun picked the wickets of RCB skipper Virat Kohli (5) and Rajat Patidar (1) while giving away just 3 runs in the 2nd over of the match but was mysteriously taken off the bowling attack after that. RCB were reduced to 2 for 9 in 2 overs when G l e n n Maxwell and Devdutt Padikkal got together to add 86 for the third wicket in just 58 balls. Padikkal's wicket for 25 in the 12th over brought AB de Villiers to the middle who turned the whole match around with Maxwell. The duo added 53 off 37 balls with Maxwell scoring 78 off 49 balls.
