Army organises lecture on social responsibility

Reasi, Apr 18 Indian Army, in its continued effort to spread awareness on various socio- economic issues, organised a lecture cum interaction on social issues for people of Chasana Village in District Reasi (J&K). Social responsibility makes individuals accountable for fulfilling their civic duties and their actions must benefit the society as a whole. Correct discharge of social responsibility by citizens keeps a balance between economic growth and welfare of society and environment. Under the ambit of social responsibility towards our citizens, Army through this lecture made populace understand the ill-effects of drug abuse and the need to work in a conducive environment for the overall welfare of the society. The individuals especially the youth were educated about the description of drugs that can harm humans both mentally and physically. The gathering was informed that the common reasons for drug addiction are stress, depression and peer pressure. Many individuals resort to use of drug to forget about the pains and hardships they face in their day to day life. The audience was also educated about the ill effects of drug addiction, i.e. low self - esteem, anxiety, loneliness, unhappiness and ill health. The gathering were also informed about the opportunities available for youth of the area and educational requirements to avail these opportunity for employment. The social responsibilities of Civil Administration, elected representatives of Dist Development Councils, Block Development and Panchayat Officials and role played by them in overall upliftment and development of areas was also highlighted. The noble initiative undertaken by Army on the issue of Social Responsibility was hailed by the congregation and they expressed their desire for more such interactive and educative forums. A total of 36 individuals attended the lecture.
