Bengal govt forms Task Force to monitor Covid beds in private hospitals

Kolkata, Apr 18 With the number of Covid-19 cases and fatalities in West Bengal rising daily, the state government has established a four-member Task Force on augmentation of Covid beds in private hospitals and nursing homes. The Task Force will be led by Sanjay Bansal, the West Bengal government's Health Secretary, and will include Harikrishna Chanda, OSD Health Department, Dr Soma Sil, and Dr Arnab Roy from the Health Department. The decision to form a task force comes at a time when the number of cases is multiplying and there is a severe shortage of beds in different states. Meanwhile, West Bengal on Saturday registered the highest single-day spike of 7,713 new Covid- 19 cases taking the tally to 6,51,508. The death toll rose to 10,540 after 34 fresh fatalities were reported.
