GDC Kalakote organizes awareness camp on drug abuse

Y B News Kalakote, Apr 06 The Anti-Drugs and Rehabilitation cell of GDC Kalakote in collaboration to the NSS Unit organized a one-day awareness camp in the college premises on the theme, “Drug Abuse in commemoration of “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav”, keeping in view the various Sop’s pertaining to Covid 19, wherein the college students were sensitized about the growing menace of the Drug Abuse in our society. Speaking on the event Prof. Marve Batool Sofi(ConvenerAnti-drugs and Rehabilitation cell) talked at length about the concept of Drug Abuse : it’s causes , effects and prevention.She briefed the students that how this menace is hollowing out our society like a termite and how important it is to curb this menace on time so as to prevent it from further affecting our youth in particular and our Nation in general. Adding to this thought, Dr. Shezad Ahmed (NSS co-ordinator) briefed the students about the various types of drugs and how it can affect the physical and mental health of an individual and how dangerous it can prove for a society leading it towards the phase of chaos and disruption. He further talked about the various studies that have been conducted from time to time which shows how this menace is gaining it’s pace day by day Moreover, an interactive session was also conducted wherein some students including, Baljeet Singh ,Mohd Muzafar and Noor jahan of B.A semester 5thgave their perception about drug abuse and also put forward certain queries which were vehemently answered. Speaking on the event, Principal GDC Kalakote, Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, addressed the students and briefed them that how drug abuse has became a trend in today’s World .He further added that today’s generation has became obsessed with following whatever is new or trending in the world and such is the situation in case of drugs as well. He also talked about importance of moral education to curb Drug Abuse and the role counseling can play to keep people away from drugs as it helps them to relieve their stress and frustration which is considered to be one of the important cause of Substance abuse. Moreover,he added that it is equally important to keep an eye on the behavior of people around us so as to help them come out of the addiction if at all they have fallen prey to it. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the college at last appreciated the efforts of the organizing team for successfully organizing this event and further advised them to continue their efforts and contribute their bit towards the goal of a Drugfree society. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the college also motivated the students to aware others what they have learnt from the event. The event ended with a pledge taking ceremony on “Say no to drugs”. The event was attended by teaching faculty of the college which included, Prof. Anayat Ullah Khan, Prof. Sanjogita Kumari , Dr. Afad- Ul- Mujaiba, Dr. Pinkey Rakwal, Dr. Mohd Shakoor, Prof. Sheetal, Parvaiz (librarian) and the supporting staff including, Devinder Singh, Parveen Kumari and Vishvajeet Dutta.
