Will strengthen image of police force: New Maharashtra HM promises no political interference

Mumbai, Apr 6 Senior NCP leader Dilip Walse Patil has taken the charge Maharashtra home minister. Patil was appointed to the post after his partymate Anil Deshmukh stepped down after the Bombay High Court ordered a CBI probe into the corruption allegations levelled against him by former Mumbai top cop Param Bir Singh. Taking charge of the home ministry amid myriad of controversies, Dilip Walse Patil aims to set the house in order. Speaking to media on Tuesday, Patil said that he will work to strengthen is the image of the Maharashtra Police. He also assured minimum political interference, something his predecessor has been accused of. "My priority will be to strengthen the image of the force and from my side there will be no political interference," Dilip Walse Patil said. The minister also assured that the transfers in the police force will only be done as per the norms.
