Y B News Jammu, Apr 05 Former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla on Monday claimed that BJP govt’s failures were visible on all fronts. He said that BJP Govt at the Centre has failed at all fronts and its falsehood is exposed in the Country. He said the Congress led UPA-I and UPA-II had launched many welfare schemes and framed policies and programmes to uplift the poor and downtrodden sections of the society. The schemes like MGNREGA, NRHM, SSA, RGGVY and other schemes aimed at the welfare and development of the rural and urban areas besides taking special care of the SC/ST/minorities and other downtrodden sections. Former Minister was interacting with prominent persons of Ward-57, Green Avenue,Trikuta Nagar Extension on Monday. Prominent among those present on the occasion include Corporator Inderjeet Kour, Rajinder Singh Randhawa, Ashok Kumar, Kuldeep Khajuria, Desh Raj, Rakesh Meenia, Ramesh Kumar, Manmohan Singh, Yog Raj beside others. Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that BJP government has miserably failed on all fronts and has only given rise to a situation of uncertainty, chaos and confusion because the govt lacks direction in the absence of pro-people agenda. He said that the youth of J&K are suffering due to the wrong polices of the BJP government in J&K and at the centre. He cautioned the youth about the designs of communal and divisive forces in the J&K who are constantly on a lookout for opportunities to strike and create hatred. Bhalla said that Congress will continue to raise the issues of public concerned at all levels and fight for the cause of general public. He said that the developmental works started by Congress Govt has gone on grand halt and the people are suffering for want of power, health care road connectivity and ration. Bhalla further said that people of J&K have witnessed a total failure of the central government on administrative, economic, foreign affairs and social fronts. Under their rule, people of J&K have faced an economic crisis, job losses, cycles of violence and a pandemic that now threatens to blow out of control. While the economy was struggling, the Modi government dedicated itself to destroying the secular fabric of society. It blatantly attacked the very foundations of the Constitution and destroyed the federal structure of the country. Each and every institution is being used to further the political purposes of the BJP rather than for nation- building. The Constitution was subverted when the state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided, taking the entire world by surprise. This move destroyed the state politically and economically. Adding to this crisis is the Covid-19 pandemic. While the pandemic itself is a massive challenge, its impact on the economy is going to be long-lasting.The rate of unemployment has crossed all previous records, which the government has accepted. Perhaps some of these troubles could have been mitigated had the Modi government listened to the opposition, added Bhalla. Bhalla demanded government to immediately release direct financial support and provide immediate assistance to poor people in distress till the MSME sector is back on its feet and can offer the dignity of jobs once again to this crucial workforce. Former Minister further said that smart city programme is probably a complete damp squib. The reality today is that even the BJP does not want to talk much about this programme. The implementation of the smart cities scheme is also tardy. The smart city mission has failed in empowering the municipal governments to bring together the institutional framework for urban development and instead proposes selective development. The evictions of the poor continue unabated in the cities, he added. Former Minister observed that another flagship programme of the BJP has been the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). This programme was supposed to plug the gap in the water and sanitation delivery. The water networks both in slums and other areas were supposed to get a facelift under AMRUT. It looks like there is more rhetoric and less real intent to deliver. This is simply because the central assistance to address urban poor’s access to water has been just 19% so far. There is a high cost that the poor living in cities are forced to pay for water. The plan is completely one-sided; without being able to dispose the waste from these toilets the situation will further worsen. In absence of proper sewage treatment plants (STPs), the dumping of sewage in nearby nalas has further worsened the situation. Bhalla said that it is a hard fact that nearly 90% of the workforce works in the informal sector. They are the ones who require the basic services immediately The National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) was launched to much fanfare by the BJP government. The NULM is the transformation of Swaran Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) launched by the UPA. Since its launch, the progress has been slow and lower than that of other government schemes. In fact, all six flagship schemes that the government promises will bring “an urban renaissance”– Smart Cities Mission, Swachh Bharat, National Urban Livelihood, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Heritage City Development & Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY)–have failed to make any impact.
