GDC hosts Awareness programme/ Workshop on Reproductive Health and PCOS

YB News Baramulla, Apr 5 As part of the World Health Day-2021 celebrations, the Departments of Sociology and Social Work of Government Degree College, Baramulla today organised, ‘Awareness programme cum Workshop on Reproductive Health and PCOS’. Prof. (Dr.) Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, Principal of the college formally inaugurated and welcomed the Guest Speaker and participants of the awareness programme cum workshop. In his address, Prof Lone advised the students to be conscious of the problems pertaining to health and suggested seeking medical advice if they have any symptoms of such lifestyle diseases as Diabetes, Blood Pressure, and Obesity, etc. Dr Rafia Aziz, Consultant Gynaecologist, GMC Baramulla was the Guest Speaker on the occasion. The participants of the workshop were teaching as well as non-teaching female faculty and students of the college. While delivering her talk on Reproductive Health and PCOS, Dr. Rafia Aziz talked about various health issues related to PCOS and the frequency of this health issue in young females. She threw light on the PCOS problem, its symptoms and remedies. She stressed on the awareness of the problem and said that the lack of awareness is the main cause of all health related issues. She stated that healthy lifestyle and adequate reproductive health knowledge are prerequisites for maintenance of physical and mental wellbeing of women. With the increasing number of PCOS in females, it is important that sufficient awareness be created among them. She also stated that PCOS has longterm effects and if not managed, can lead to diseases such as, diabetes, hypertension, infertility, and in some cases breast and uterine cancers. Dr. Rafia strongly suggested making dietary modifications like increasing frequency and decreasing portions of meals. While talking about its remedies she emphasised on lifestyle habits such as regular exercise, frequent small meals, weight control, diet control, etc. She advised the female students not to feel shy in consulting a gynaecologist in case they develop any problematic symptoms. Dr. Syed Masarat Geelani, Head Department of Urdu, conducted the proceedings of the session and presented a brief account of the importance of reproductive health. This was followed by a very interactive question and answer session, where the students asked questions related to reproductive health and PCOS.
