Poonch, Apr 04 Road traffic accidents are one of the major causes for the growing number of fatalities in our country. According to the World Health Organisation, more than 1.25 million people are killed and 50 million people are injured or disabled around the world each year in road accidents. The remote border area of District Poonch (J&K) has narrow roads which are always vulnerable to road traffic accidents. There has been a substantial increase in the vehicular traffic in the recent years, however, due to lack of knowledge on traffic rules amongst local population, especially the students and youth, the same has resulted in an increase in the number of road accidents causing large number of avoidable fatalities and serious injuries. An awareness lecture on “Road Safety” was organised by Army at Government Middle School, Kataria Ban in District Poonch. The audience was guided about wearing of the helmets and seat belts while traveling.
