DEP for Ramban approved; will ensure protection of environment in a scientific manner

Y B News Ramban, Apr 02 Revised District Environment Plan of Ramban has been approved which shall ensure implementation of development plans in an environmentally sustainable manner and execution of projects by taking appropriate actions to reduce adverse environmental impact during its life cycle. The DEP is of importance as it involves community participation. The DEP has clearly defined specific roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders to control the negative impact of human activities on the environment. The DEP has been framed keeping in view the topography, geography, climatic conditions, population and requirements of the area to ensure sustainable development of the district. Comprehensive specific plans have also been formed for the management of noise pollution, mining activity, air quality, Industrial waste, domestic sewerage, water quality, waste management, e-waste management, and hazardous and bio-medical waste, and construction, plastic and solid waste in the district. Under the DEP various activities have been proposed for preservation, maintenance, rejuvenation and creation of water bodies besides harvesting rain water to meet the requirements of minor irrigation. Afforestation is also a prominent part of the DEP which will be implemented with the involvement of people from all walks of life. As per the action plan, Solid Waste Management Plan of Batote and then Ramban shall be implemented as per SWM Rules, 2016 and directions of NGT. The 10 kanal Land for Material Recovery Facility (MRF) has already been transferred to MC Ramban and MC Batote. Under the Domestic Sewage Management Plan, two sewage treatment plants of capacity 8 MLD and 3 MLD has been proposed in Ramban for treating sewage generated from residential and commercial activities on both sides of Chenab River at Maitra and Ramban side.
