ER ABHA GUPTA Jammu, Mar 31 Youngbites Team while on its visit to Akhnoor, got an opportunity to meet Geet Kour, wife of 1971 war hero Balwant Singh. Geet Kour lives in Village Nadi Bala of Akhnoor. Geet Kour is very old now, while recalling old days, she said that she it has been years now, society has totally changed. She says that she knew that her husband had gone for war, but hardly she knew that he had martyred while fighting bravely. She says that at the time when her husband laid his life for the nation, she had two girls, elder was 2 years old while younger was just 21 days old. She feels proud of her husband’s bravery, but even after so many decades her eyes become wet recalling her husband’s bravery. Veer Nari says that society forgets very soon. No leader, Panch, Sarpanch has ever visited her place. But she has no regrets now. At the end, we request all our readers and society in general to come forward and contribute as much towards the welfare of families of martyr. Sainik Welfare Dept is meant to take care of martyr’s family, the civil society can come in touch with them to help the families in their needs. It is the duty of citizens to visit their families and help them in solving their problems. Tell the ‘Veer Naris’, ‘Veer Mata’ that we are always with them. Help their children in career counseling. Give them respect. Never forget that the supreme sacrifice was made for us”.
