BRUSH YOUR TEETH AND USE DENTAL FLASK: DR AATIKA

Dr. Aatika Gupta Bali, Dentist, Institute Of Dental Sciences, Jammu in an interaction with Young Bite correspondent Pooja Thakur. Pooja Thakur/ Shubham Gupta Q. Why we lack oral hygiene? Dr: It doesn’t matter your job profile, your salary, your personality when it comes to oral hygiene. The oral hygiene scenario of India is dropping very fast. The condition of oral hygiene is ridiculous. Patients come to us when the case is totally out of our hands, we have to extract the decayed tooth to save the others. But some of the patients don’t understand why would we extract a tooth? They blame us for their oral hygiene. People are not aware of their oral hygiene and secondly, they are not concerned about their oral health. Q. What is your advice to make gum and teeth healthy? Dr: Brush at least twice a day using a soft-bristle toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Replace the toothbrush every 3 to 4 months or sooner if the bristles begin to fray. Brush the teeth at a 45-degree angle to the gums. Whenever you feel irritation, tooth pain, gum bleeding doesn’t be your own doctor, contact a specialist as soon as possible. Don’t take oral hygiene for granted. Q. What kinds of patients you deal with? Dr: Some of the patients are cooperative whereas some are very rude. For fixing a denture it takes 4-5 visits, some cooperate while some start fighting and arguing with us to fix a denture in one appointment. I remember an incident when I told my patient to not eat chocolates and ice-cream and she replied that she eats on her dad’s money, not mine. Never go to roadside vendors for cleaning of teeth, they used a chemical that is very harmful to your oral hygiene.
