T K NANDANAN It is not very long since the Congress party led by Rahul Gandhi was trounced in the general election in the country, and in the several state elections too, it lost its power making the Congress too weak. It may be recalled that Rahul Gandhi voluntarily came forward owning up the responsibility of election debacle. Congress defeat, one by one in the past elections, made Rahul more realistic and qualified to serve people sincerely. Ever since then we witnessed him interacting with common man and he has been travelling across the length and breadth of India getting to know people’s actual problems. Truly, there are few leaders in the country so widely travelled every nook and cranny of the countryas Rahul Gandhi, who has known people’s specific problems at their specific places. Perhaps, the electoral setbacks taught him the hard realities of life and thus it made him wiser than ever. Yes, he has now started speaking seriously about the real development of India. Kicking off his election campaign in Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi said that he wanted his shirt, mobile phone and camera to be ‘Made in Tamil Nadu’ to compete with Chinese industries. It is pertinent to note that Chinese electronic items like mobile phones, computers, cameras and all kinds of electronic accessories have endeared and won the hearts of billions across the world with their excellent qualities and competitive price tags. Once the electronic boom was confined to Japan only and it later spread to South Korea and Taiwan. Thereafter, a real electronic boom erupted from the heart of China and the whole of China now supplies world class electronic items. Many of these electronic companies have ceased to be Chinese but grown to be the world’s companies. Such was the electronic boom in China over the last two decades. Rahul Gandhi must have taken into consideration the exponential growth of China in the electronic field when he saidhe wanted his shirt, mobile phone and camera to be ‘Made in Tamil Nadu’ to compete with Chinese industries. So, we need a strong government that has to earnestly think about country’s development in line with China’s development in the electronicfield. After all, the real development lies in the economic well-being of each and every one residing in the country. The self-reliant initiative by the Modi government investing thousands of crores of rupees in the domestic companies is not at all the panacea for the ailment haunting the country’s development, but rather a leader with a vision to compete with China is need of the hour. Rahul Gandhi having expressed and exhibited such vision can be undoubtedly a right leader who can surely change the face of India in an earnest way. A leader with such vision should have come to the throne of power long ago and implemented plans that can help the country reach the pinnacle of development long ago. But what is the need of crying over the spilled milk? Let bygones be bygones. If Rahul Gandhi has the right vision about the country’s prosperity, then he must be given a chance to prove his mettle without delay.
