Mumbai, Feb 24 The Maharashtra Congress has said that police must probe whether the BJP was had any links to the death of Dadra and Nagar Haveli MP Mohan Delkar who was found hanging on Monday at a hotel in South Mumbai. Delkar's body was handed over to the family on Monday evening after post mortem confirmed that the cause of his death was asphyxia due to hanging. Statements of his family members are yet to be recorded by police. The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson Sachin Sawant and general secretary Dr Raju Waghmare have written to the state home minister Anil Deshmukh asking him to investigate whether the BJP had any links to the tragic end of Delkar. The letter written on February 24, which is in possession of India Today TV, says that Delkar who was the MP from Dadra and Nagar Haveli was under immense political duress for the past one year. It was this stress that probably drove him to the extreme step of taking his own life, the letter says. The letter says, "Delkar had publicly claimed that he was at the receiving end of the powers that be in the UT and New Delhi. In a detailed tell-all video released in mid-2020, Delkar had taken his constituents into confidence and threatened to resign from his Lok Sabha seat as he could no longer bear the insults and humiliating treatment continuously meted out to him. Delkar was clearly seen targeting BJP in the video. The words used by him shed light on how he was targeted by the Modi government". Delkar in the video had said, "All my efforts to get justice are blocked and stonewalled by these people. They are even trying to frame me in fake cases, my supporters, the organisations I run or work for are targeted and the people in it are also hounded." Delkar can also be heard saying that BJP leaders, the bureaucracy, police, investigating agencies, and local goons were constantly harassing him at all levels. Delkar had also accused officials at the UT of continuously harassing him, not allowing him to address his people, and attemping to book him in fake cases. The Maharashtra Congress's letter concludes by saying, "It is pertinent to note that Delkar travelled late on Sunday, checked into a hotel room, and committed suicide by hanging on Monday. He may have chosen to come to Mumbai for committing suicide because he was not sure to get justice in the UT. He must have come to Mumbai with an expectation from MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) government that the culprits who compelled him to take the extreme step by harassing him would be punished by law".
